Lady Marie

I've always loved dogs, but had never had one of my own. That's when Lady Marie came to me. In December 2013, Chris and I visited the Lawrence Humane Society. We said we were going to "just look", but we both knew that I was not going to leave without a dog of my own.

I was originally looking for a Lab-kind of dog, and young - about 1 year old. We looked at all the dogs, and we took Sadie, a young Golden Retriever-Lab mix, out to play. However, I didn't feel the connection, and Chris told me that I shouldn't choose a dog just for the sake of having one. Sadie was taken back and Lady Marie, a red/brown terrier mix, was brought out for me. It was love at first stick-throw. She was attentive and just wanted to play with us. That was it. I knew I had to have her, and Chris paid the adoption fee - an early birthday gift.

Lady Marie. How do I even begin to describe her? She is such a funny dog. We're not even sure how old she is - somewhere between 6-9 years old. She's a little more submissive than Callie, but does not like to be pushed around. She isn't as high maintenance as Callie; any old stick will do as a toy. She LOVES belly rubs and has no problem hooking her paw around your hand and pulling it towards her belly. She does that multiple times until she gets what she wants.

Lady loves kisses. We say she has dolphin-kisses; she jumps up at you and kisses you to death. She kisses us so hard that we can feel her teeth against our cheeks. She is friendly towards everyone.

Lady likes to eat. She is a little on the heavier side, so I call her my little fatty. Sometimes she'll sneak in and eat Callie's food. She'll eat pretty much anything. We have to watch everything, because if it's small, she'll eat it. She's eaten a ballon, bits of her toy, and corn.

Lady Marie's favorite toy is her orange rhino. It had the chew-guard technology, but she managed to destroy it. Like Callie, she loves hide and seek, and she loves it when we throw it for her. She'll drop it by our feet and wait. Sometimes we don't even know she's there, but that never stops her. We throw it, and then she'll scurry away, jump on the bed, and chew on it.

Lady's favorite activity is playing good ol' fetch. Again, we use a 30' cable run. Unlike Callie, she waits for us to throw the ball, rushes off to catch it, and brings it right back. Over and over again, until she's tired.
